BusinessDenver recently reported that the VA has decided to sell its property at 9th and Clermont. Your Civic Association board and Zoning Committee will be monitoring this project as it develops (pun intended).
Here is what we know at this time:
- We learned at a meeting with Councilwoman Sawyer, that the VA plans to break the property into two parcels and sell to two different buyers.
- Councilwoman Sawyer was asked and stated the sale will not fall under the requirements of the McKinney-Vento Act which addresses the disposal of federal property but will be under FASTA. In 2016 Title V of the Act was “improved” by a bipartisan coalition in Congress and is now referred to as FAST Act or FASTA. Federal Assets Sale and Transfer Act of 2016 (FAST Act.) Here is more detail if you wish to delve into it.
- Councilwoman Sawyer stated the development of the property would fall under the city’s Large Development Review process. This does provide for opportunities for community engagement but it is too early in the process to provide any details. The project is located within Bellevue-Hale’s RNO and the Colorado Blvd Healthcare District, which was the authority that administered the redevelopment of the former UCHSC campus, has disbanded. A coalition of adjacent neighborhoods most likely will not be involved in the same way they were with the 9+CO development.
Again, we will be following this and reporting back to the neighborhood periodically.
