Trash Cans Removed on 6th Avenue Parkway

General

You may have noticed the steel trash cans along our 6th Avenue Parkway have been removed.

The Department of Parks & Recreation provided this explanation:

“Due to staffing shortage, we removed trash cans in some park areas and parkways. We reduced our trash receptacle and collection program to focus those efforts on park areas with stationary use and activities rather than pass through-areas including 6th Ave. We removed cans along 6th Ave, 7th Ave and Monaco Pkwy since the trash is collected in those is predominantly dog waste that can be carried back home.”
Our City Councilwoman Amanda Sawyer is working with DPR to get the trash cans re-instated and would like your help in this effort:
“Our Council office has requested that the trash cans be returned, but due to budget constraints we have been told this is not possible. We will keep at it but we’ve found that requests like this tend to be ignored unless we can show that the community really wants this. If this is something you feel strongly about, would you please call 3-1-1, request it using pocketgov.org, and/or email Parks & Rec Field Superintendent Adam Smith at adam.smith@denvergov.org and ask Parks & Rec to return the garbage cans? And, just a reminder to please be polite in your request! Thank you!”

Good reminder from our Councilwoman (and my mom) —  you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.

And until the trash cans are returned, please take your waste bag back home to dispose of or throw away in the next public trash can you encounter on the way home.  Thanks everyone for keeping our neighborhood clean and free of waste & trash!
