General News

Mayor Michael B. Hancock has just announced that the City and County of Denver (CCD) will be permanently closing Bannock St between Colfax Ave and 14th Ave and transforming it into a public gathering and event space. The space will serve as a “front porch” to the City and County Building; providing a pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly urban plaza as well as a new and improved public event space.
The CCD will officially and permanently close Bannock St on April 21 and initially activate the space with a bicycle lane, street mural, large planters and tables and chairs. The CCD will then institute a city-wide planning and design study to guide the transition of Bannock from a street to a high-quality public space. Planning activities will include event organizer and public outreach to gather feedback on activation strategies. It is expected that the design planning will conclude by the end of 2021 and that construction will be completed by mid-2023. Development plans are expected to include improved infrastructure that will better support various types of event activations.
We will make an effort to keep you informed as we learn more about this project from the City and County of Denver as they share updates and invite feedback at critical junctures of the planning process.
