Hilltop Voted #1 Neighborhood in Denver!

5280 Magazine just published their edition of the 25 Best Neighborhoods in Denver for 2021 and Hilltop was at the top of the rankings!

Civic Association:
4th Annual Community Picnic at Cranmer Park – Join us for our 4th Annual Community Picnic at Cranmer Park on Friday, July 2nd from 6:00pm until the last sparkle of the Glendale Fireworks, visible from our vantage point at the park.

Hilltop Summer Movie Night – Sponsor needed! – The Civic Association is looking for one more sponsor for the Hilltop Summer Movie Nights at Robinson Park. This year we will be having a movie in July and August, as well as food trucks and other entertainment. This is a great opportunity for local businesses to support and connect with the neighborhood! Sponsors will have the opportunity to have a table at each event and will be included in all promotional materials and communication. If you would like more information please contact Stephanie Chay at [email protected].

Parks and Recreation:
Be Kind to Our Park Trees – Stringing up a nylon hammock is popular in Denver, but it can have a negative impact on the health of trees.  Celeste Benzschawel from 5280 Magazine, explains why in an article published last year.

Businesses:
Blancos Tacos & Tequila – One of the new restaurants at 9th+CO has applied for their liquor license. A virtual hearing on this application will be held on 6/18/21 at 1:00pm.

Local Government:
Disposable Bag Fee Goes Into Effect on July 1 – To help reduce the number of disposable bags used, littered, and landfilled, the Denver City Council adopted a fee on disposable bags and requires retail stores in Denver to charge $0.10 for each disposable bag – plastic, paper, or other material including but not limited to compostable material, provided to customers at checkout beginning July 1st.

Denver Days – Eight years ago the Mayor created Denver Days, a program during the first week of August that encourages neighbors to get to know their fellow neighbors by hosting block parties, picnics, and service projects with the focus on small, organic gatherings. Register for your Denver Days event here.

New Bike and Scooter Share Program – Denver’s Department of Transportation & Infrastructure (DOTI) has received approval from the City Council to move ahead with licensing agreements for Lyft and Lime to operate scooter and bike share services in Denver.  In exchange, Denver will receive multi-million-dollar investments from the two companies and offer residents a comprehensive citywide bike share program, that Denver lost more than a year ago with the departure of B-cycle.

Stormwater Projects Update – Denver’s Department of Transportation & Infrastructure (DOTI) has issued a message to the community regarding the stormwater projects in our area.

Safe Outdoor Space Forum – Denver’s umbrella neighborhood organization, INC, takes an in-depth look at the Safe Outdoor Space program that has been in the news recently and may be an important tool for city to shelter our homeless residents.  Learn more about this program at the INC Forum on June 12.
