DENVER – Denver has requested two overnight closures of West 6th Avenue next week between Federal and Sheridan Boulevards for work on a pedestrian bridge that spans over the interstate just west of Federal. Denver constructed the Barnum Pedestrian Bridge, connecting the Villa Park and Barnum neighborhoods, about five years ago in conjunction with the Colorado Department of Transportation’s U.S. 6 Bridges project.

Kraemer Construction will be performing work for the city to improve the pedestrian bridge’s bearing system and extend the life of the structure. The following closures are needed to ensure the safety of the travelling public while the bridge work is underway (see detour map here: 6th Ave Detour Map)

Eastbound closure, Monday, April 26: Eastbound travel lanes of U.S. 6 approaching Sheridan Boulevard will begin closing at 8pm, fully closing by 10pm and reopening the next morning by 5am. People traveling east will exit U.S. 6 at Sheridan Blvd, using Colfax or Alameda Avenues to travel east to Federal Blvd to get back on the highway. Westbound travel lanes will remain open this night.

Westbound closure, Tuesday, April 27: Westbound travel lanes of U.S. 6 approaching Federal Blvd will begin closing at 8pm, fully closing by 10pm and reopening the next morning by 5am. People traveling west will exit U.S. 6 at Federal Blvd, using Colfax or Alameda Avenues to travel west to Sheridan Blvd to get back on the highway. Eastbound travel lanes will remain open this night.

The public’s patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated. Work is weather dependent, and schedules are subject to change.
