MEDIA ADVISORY August 5, 2020
Work to Require Full Closure of Hampden at Colorado Blvd. This Weekend DENVER – Last weekend, crews made good progress installing a massive underpass beneath Hampden Avenue at Colorado Boulevard. Denver’s Department of Transportation & Infrastructure (DOTI) is building two new underpasses beneath this busy intersection to allow people walking and riding bikes to have safer crossings near the High Line Canal Trail. This time lapse video on DOTI’s You Tube channel shows all the work that went into the installation beneath Hampden Avenue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRGvhsMB3JM&feature=youtu.be
There is still more work to be done on the Hampden underpass, which will require another full closure of Hampden Avenue at Colorado Boulevard starting Friday, August 7 at 7 p.m. until Monday, August 10 at 5:30 a.m. Doing this work over the weekend allows crews to complete installation more quickly and prevent multiple street closures during the week. The map below shows detours that will be in place while work is underway. Message boards are also posted in advance of the closure to alert people about the work and encourage them to use alternative routes. Additionally, trail users on Colorado Boulevard will be rerouted around the east side of Magna Carta Park between Girard and Hampden Avenues.
In June, crews completed installation of the Colorado underpass, and after installation of the Hampden underpass wraps-up this weekend, crews will then focus on building a new,10-foot wide multi-use trail along the north side of Hampden, which will provide more space to bike and walk. The underpasses and multi-use trail are anticipated to be ready for use by Spring 2021.
