Denver Parks & Recreation has moved many of its classes and program on line!

We learned how to tie knots useful in the outdoors, ballet basics, dribbling skills and so much more! We are so thankful to all of our instructors for their hard work and were floored with the positive response from you. We appreciate your patience with some of the inevitable bumps that come with technology, but know that we’re in this together and aim to provide you with the best possible program options.
Next week, you will find fitness classes, games, art projects and more on DPR’s Facebook, Instagram and YouTube pages, along with interactive Zoom classes. The familiar, friendly faces of DPR Instructors will be walking you through workouts and activities to keep your mind and body active. Keep reading to find details on schedules and how to join!

Functional Fit

Join us each week for this 50+ approved class adaptable to all fitness levels. Build strength for daily living through exercises designed to increase range of motion and strength.

Arts & Culture
Parent & Me: Preschool Play

Parent and Child can follow along singing songs, finger play, dance games, story time, art projects and more! Check the description every week to see what supplies at home you need to follow the craft, no supplies? No problem! For Ages 0-4, parent participation highly recommended.
This week’s craft: Sensory Bags. Supplies needed: You will need a gallon ziploc bag, tape of any kind, Oil (Baby, Canola, Vegetable,Olive, Any Kind, Food coloring any color. It is not mandatory but having beads or glitter will add an extra touch.
Dance Class: Ballet Basics

Join us every week for virtual dance class where youth can learn proper dance vocabulary, movement, rhythm, showmanship and more. A great way to stay active while at home! Child can follow along without parents. Ages 3-7

Follow Along Art: Step by Step (Ages 13+)
Thursdays 5:30 – 7:00 pm | Facebook Live
Join us for a step by step art project every week. Acrylic, water color, crayons, color pencils, it doesn’t matter; you choose the medium! Whether you buy supplies or use what you have at home anyone can participate in this class. Simply check the class description to find out what colors you’ll need each week. From working on a piece of paper or canvas this class is sure to bring out your inner artist. Ages 13+.
This week’s project: Moonlit Night Supplies needed: Pencil, Black pen, tissues. Colors needed: Black, white, Dark Purple, Light Purple, Violet, Navy Blue, Royal blue, baby blue, gray. *The suggested medium for this project is oil pastels however it is not necessary. *It is also recommended to have liquid white out or white paint; however not necessary.
Follow Along Art: Step by Step (Ages 50+)

Family Fun in the Home: Crafts for Everyone

This week’s project: Juice Pouch stomp Rocket. Supplies needed: An empty juice puch (ex: Capri Sun) and it’s straw, card stock/construction paper, scotch tape, play-doh/clay/used chewing gum, paper/plastic straw.

Household Fitness Equipment Substitutes
There are many items around your house that can be used as equipment when performing workouts at home. Denver Parks and Recreation Fitness Instructor Natalie goes over different household items that can be substituted for commonly used pieces of equipment in our fitness classes while participating virtually.
Barre Express
Mondays, 9:30 – 10:15 am & Fridays, 1:00 – 1:45 pm | Zoom
This workout combines mat Pilates and resistance training to target all major and minor muscle groups in the body. Utilizing various props and light dumbbells, the class moves to the beat of the music to flow quickly between exercises.
Class may utilize the following equipment:
1. Light dumbbells (cans of beans, peanut butter jars)
2. Small pilates ball (small stuffed animal, pillow, playground ball)
3. Glider disc (paper plate, towel)
4. Barre (sturdy chair, wall)
5. Resistance band (no band)
6. Mat (carpeted floor)
HIIT Cardio
Mondays, 10:30 – 11:00 am & Thursdays, 4:00 – 4:30 pm | Zoom
This 30-minute cardio class alternates between intervals of high intensity cardiovascular exercises and body-weight resistance movements to achieve maximum performance in minimal time.

Cardio Kickboxing
Tuesdays, 4:00 – 4:30 pm & Fridays 12:00 – 12:45pm | Zoom
This high-intensity, boxing-inspired, cardio workout combines athletic drills, combos, plyometrics, agility training, and resistance training. Choreographed to the beat of the music, it works every major and minor muscle group in the body.

Lower Body & Abs
Tuesdays, 4:30 – 5:00 pm | Zoom
This 30-minute class will blast your legs and core! We will target quads, glutes, hamstrings, inner/outer thighs, calves and abs through a variety of resistance training exercises.

This 30-minute class will crush your arms and core! We will target chest, back, biceps, triceps, shoulders, and abs through a variety of resistance training exercises.

The Household Olympics

Rube Goldberg Machines

If you look up the definition of “Rube Goldberg”, it says “doing something by unnecessarily complicated means”. What better way to help pass the time at home than creating an over complicated machine?
Equipment needed: Any random objects from around the house
SINK or FLOAT!

During this activity, we will challenging our viewers to guess whether they believe the random object will SINK or FLOAT.
Equipment needed: If you want to try at home: Bucket/Bath-Tub/Sink, etc – Filled with water and random objects.

Sports Experience: Home Edition
Tuesdays, 12:00 – 12:30 pm | Facebook Live
Introduction to youth sports programs and basic fundamental skills.
Week 2: Basketball and Volleyball. Designed for kids ages 3-6
Equipment needed: Basketball or any ball that bounces, volleyball or soft round ball, balloon, basketball hoop, hamper, or trash can, rope, jump rope, cones or like equipment.
Basketball: Home Edition
Tuesdays, 2:00 – 2:30 pm | Facebook Live
Basketball Drills and Conditioning that you can do at home!
Equipment needed: Basketball and any stationary object such as a cone or chair.
Football Skills: Receiver Position
Thursdays, 1:30 – 2:00 pm | Facebook Live
During this activity, we will be going over all fundamental skills associated with the running back position. This includes, ball handling, footwork, speed drills
Week 2: Introduction to the receiver position. Class includes: Catching drills, foot work lessons, and how to improve hand-eye coordination.
Equipment needed: Cones, Tennis balls, playing cards, tape and football.
Baseball skills: Introduction to the infield positions.
Thursdays, 2:00 – 2:30 pm | Facebook Live
Basic fundamentals of baseball skills; This five week series will teach all the basic skills to playing baseball and drills to be done solo to improve the skills. Week one is baseball warm-up, gripping the ball, throwing the ball and catching the ball.
Week 2: Introduction to the infield positions. Today we will look at each infield position, what roles each position plays in the game and their responsibilities.
Equipment needed: Baseball glove and baseball.
Volleyball Skills & Drills
Fridays, 2:00 – 2:30 pm | Facebook Live
Basic fundamentals of volleyball skills and drills; This five week series will teach all the basic skills in playing volleyball and drills that can be done at home solo or with family. Each week will have warm ups/stretches and one focus point, with some intro to what we will do the following week.
Equipment needed: Volleyball and cones (or cones equivalent such as plastic cups.)
Soccer Training Drills
Saturdays, 10:30 – 11:00 am and Thursdays | 5:00 – 5:30 pm, Facebook Live
Basic fundamentals of soccer skills and drills; This class will teach all the basic skills in playing soccer and drills that can be done at home solo or with family. Each week will have warm ups/stretches and touch on one focus point.
Week 2: History of soccer. Designed for kids ages 7+
Equipment needed: Soccer ball, cones (or cones equivalent such as plastic cups.)

CityWide Sports
Intro to Sports & Performance Psychology
