Community Meeting with Gateway East Developer
Earlier this summer, we posted a neighborhood news item about a meeting held by the Cherry Creek East Association (an RNO) to discuss a proposed development in the Cherry Creek East neighborhood. At that meeting, the developer, Doug McKinnon & Associates, offered to make the same presentation of the proposal to our Hilltop neighbors. We have been able to secure a date and a location and hope we will see some of you at this community meeting to learn about the project and ask questions.
September 19 from 6-8 pm at Graland Country Day School (2nd Floor Conference Room). Please enter through the gate on 1st Avenue.
On an important side note: Doug McKinnon is also a partner in SMW Hilltop, LLC, the developer of the 30-50 So. Colorado Blvd property, a project we are eagerly awaiting to see begin IT’S development with the demolition of the church. We have recently learned from the developer, that but for one exception, they are ready to begin the project. (project description here) The property has a lease with Verizon for a small cell tower and they are trying to secure a release from this contract in order to demo the building. The original group of nearby/closely impacted neighbors, who worked with the Association to secure the agreement with SMW Hilltop, have signaled they are in no mood to wait until the lease is up. Sue Bollman, a member of this aforementioned group and now an Association board director, has offered to take the lead with the city to declare the building a nuisance and force the demolition.
The reasons for pursuing a nuisance declaration are continuing issues with vagrants, vandalism and drug use at the church property. We need your help by asking you to continue to report any issues of this kind you observe on the property to 311 and the police. Additionally, we would appreciate if you also copy the Association on your report(s). We will need to track this data to help make the case for a nuisance declaration. Keep checking here for updates. Sue has an email list of neighbors and will be keeping us up-to-date that way as well. Thank you!
