General News

Cherry Creek Theatre’s ninth season opens with Stephen Sondheim’s Tony Award-winning musical “A Little Night Music,” playing Jan. 24–Feb. 17.

Set in Sweden at the turn of the century, the musical centers around Fredrick Egerman (Brian Merz-Hutchinson) and his past lover Desiree Armfeldt (Susie Roelofsz) who reconnect amid failing relationships. With a book by Hugh Wheeler, “A Little Night Music” weaves Egerman and Armfeldt’s affair between various trysts and liaisons of their families and servants during a weekend in the Swedish countryside.

Director Kelly Van Oosbree, a two-time Henry Award winner, will reimagine the large-scale musical for CCT’s intimate Pluss Theatre at the Mizel Arts and Culture Center. “I am always up for a challenge and am drawn to creative storytelling,” she said. “I believe the opportunity to tell this story in a way that accommodates the space is going to create some thrilling staging and a wonderful theatrical experience.”
